The Travel Foundation

The Travel Foundation is an independent charity, which works to promote and support sustainable tourism by investigating the positive and negative impacts of the industry. From infographics to tourist guides we’ve designed a range of materials for their campaigns and marketing.

Tourism maps and guides

Tourism is a mainstay for the Jamaican economy so it’s important that local people benefit from the wealth of opportunities generated by the industry. We designed an Insider Guide and Map for both digital and print media to show visitors some of the fantastic local places to eat, drink and explore. A bright and bold colour palette was used in true Jamaican style. Residents and business owners were also interviewed so they could share tips and explain what really makes Montego Bay special. These insights were then captured in the guide, encouraging tourists to get out and about and experience the vibrant local life.

The materials were used for part of the Travel Foundation’s “Warm Welcome” campaign. This was featured as part of the Global Sustainable Conference run by the UN’s World Tourism Organisation in Montego Bay for 2017.

We designed another series of maps and guides for a project funded by the TUI Care Foundation in Croatia. After two hotel re-developments in the villages of Zivogosce and Igrane, local businesses were struggling to adapt and compete. By promoting the rich local heritage visitors are now encouraged to find out more about the area and in turn this benefits local people. Our designs included 2 walking maps with self-guided tours for the villages along with tourist signage and a banner promoting the work of the Travel Foundation and TUI Care Foundation.

Strategy report

Keen to make their work processes more tangible and interesting for potential new partners the Travel Foundation wanted an illustrated approach to how they work. With this in mind we illustrated different activities using icons based on the ideas of travel which featured the consistent directional device of the orange arrow.

The icons were then used to tell the story of the Travel Foundation in an A4 infographic.

Each stage of the Travel Foundation’s approach was illustrated in more detail and used as slides on powerpoint and web presentations.

We then recreated the Travel Foundation’s approach in a printed concertina leaflet. The icons created for this were also used in a video explaining the charity’s work. Watch the video here
