Sustainable Messaging

WOMAD Festival

Donor Board

WOMAD Festival asked us to create sustainable messaging including a donor board for their 2019 Festival to help reduce carbon emissions. Festivals usually use temporary power supplies in the form of diesel-powered generators. However working with partner Ecotricity, WOMAD have been developing a plan to reduce carbon emissions and create a renewable energy infrastructure. They hope to have the campsite and arboretum area at the site on a green energy mains tariff by 2020.

To achieve their renewable energy plan WOMAD asked visitors for a voluntary contribution of £5 for parking. We designed colourful signage boards which led up to a main board housing the contactless donation point. The design for this final board was laser-etched into 6mm birch plywood. Festival goers could then make contactless donations as they entered the gates.

Renewable cups and posters

We also created a design for renewable cups used at bars across the festival site. These were made from recycled materials and were also recyclable. Customers could return them to the bars after which they’d be taken to a specialised recycling centre in Wiltshire.

Poster designs accompanied the cups, reminding people to return their cups to the bars for recycling. WOMAD also offered customers the option of buying a reusable metal cup to keep.
