Healthy ageing is “The process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older ages” – World Health Organisation.

Sirona care & health are a not-for-profit social enterprise who provide specialist health and social care services across South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Their dedicated Specialist Falls Service are working to improve mobility and reduce the risk of falls as we age. They have developed the STEP programme (Start Today Exercise Programme), a series of six seated exercises to improve muscle strength and keep us active. Sirona asked us to create a positive and engaging branded animation to advertise the STEP programme to clinicians and patients, along with animating the exercises themselves in an instructional video. These were promoted and circulated throughout the organisation and are available online.

We developed a series of illustrated characters for the animations who would feature within the adverts and ‘perform’ the exercises. We worked with the client to avoid elderly stereotypes, especially when it came to their clothing and hairstyles. It was important that the characters were still relatable to the viewer, so we kept the style of the characters quite realistic with proportionate bodies and limbs. This keeps the exercises easy to follow with or without the accompanying voice over.
