Mental health campaign
NHS
NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire approached Green Hat to create a mental health campaign for young people aged 13-18. The campaign would encourage them to seek support through self-referral for low mood and anxiety. As part of the campaign, posters would be displayed in schools and community spaces to raise awareness, as well as digitally on social media and in doctors’ waiting rooms.
We developed four routes to present to the client. As the service would be accessed via phones, two routes focused on phone language: emojis and text threads. The final two took a more illustrative approach, with route four reflecting the service’s illustration style. To ensure we found the right tone of voice, we consulted with a child psychologist and a copywriter to develop the campaign’s call to action.
Route three was chosen and further developed, with the slider game offering a fresh visual take on anxiety, supported by clear messaging that’s easy to understand, even for those unfamiliar with the game.
The illustration style, featuring block shapes and bright colors, appeals to all ages. We refined the messaging to be more youthful and aligned with the visuals. The final poster designs included a set of four diverse characters.
