Grazing Livestock report

Sustainable Food Trust

The Sustainable Food Trust (SFT) are dedicated to building a more sustainable food system. One that supports human and environmental health through the collective power of organisations, people and communities. The SFT was founded in 2011 in response to the intensifying human and environmental crises associated with the vast majority of today’s food and farming systems.

As part of their focus on sustainable livestock, SFT approached us to design their Grazing Livestock report.

It was a delight to work with Green Hat on this report, and we are thrilled with the final result. The infographics, illustrations, and overall look and feel of the report really help convey the messages we want to get across, and we’ve had really positive feedback from our network – including farmers, policymakers, and the wider public! Green Hat brought creativity, clarity, and professionalism to every stage of the process. They were responsive to our ideas, insightful in their suggestions, and truly understood the story we wanted to tell. We’re proud of the outcome and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Together with the SFT’s photography, infographics are used throughout the report to highlight key topics. The SFT’s brand includes a simple, graphic style of illustration. However, the client asked us to develop a more anatomical style to depict the livestock within the report.

Our solution was a contrasting style to the simple graphics, featuring textured and naturalistic elements. This new style described the livestock and landscape, whilst the graphic illustrations depicted the ‘scientific’ elements of the infographics.

The client also required an infographic to illustrate livestock in a ‘regenerative’ landscape. We proposed designing the infographic as an isometric illustration allowing us to work with an overhead perspective and consistent scale.

The report is divided into two parts, including overviews, subchapters, and case studies. To differentiate the two parts, we developed a styling rooted in the curve of the SFT logo.

As well as being printed, the report is available digitally and can be read on the Sustainable Food Trust’s website.
